Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize - First round

Aeneid Book VI (296 - 629) has got through to the second round of judging, fingers crossed....

This is the second of three drawings which re-inscribe Book VI, the section where Aeneas meet the Sibyl who escorts him down into the underworld and where, eventually, he is briefly reunited with his dead father in Elysium. The book refers to a hundred caves with a hundred (female) voices issuing from them, and I have used the oval motif to allude to voices, caves and openings.

The drawings are a part of the 'Sibyls' collaboration with the painter Lindsay Simons.
